Senator Jain
Ankit Jain was elected DC’s U.S. Senator in 2024. He advocates before the U.S. Senate to advance DC statehood and protect DC Home Rule. Since taking office, he has worked with members of congress, state leaders, and advocacy organizations to defend DC's rights from attack by the federal government. Jain is a resident of Ward 2. He is a voting rights attorney who currently works as an independent legal contractor, advocating for everyone to have the right to cast a meaningful vote through ranked choice voting.

What is a
shadow senator?
Because DC is not a state, its residents do not have full congressional representation. Instead, DC elects two “Shadow” Senators to work with members of Congress and leaders across the city to move DC towards statehood, to prevent congressional interference in DC affairs, and to advocate before the U.S. Senate for laws that protect DC’s interests.
